Sue White
Co-founder, Sue White, is a Samadhi Yoga trained teacher who is now also a teaching assistant on the studio’s well regarded Teacher Training program. Sue is also a co-director of Samadhi Corporate Yoga and Wellness, which takes the teachings of yoga to the business community. She is also the founder of the charitable organisation Groundwork International Foundation, which has helped raise over $25,000 for children across the world since its inception in 2003.
Katie Spiers
Director of Samadhi Yoga in Newtown, Katie Spiers is a certified Jivamukti Yoga teacher. She currently directs and teaches for the Samadhi Yoga Teacher Training. Katie is author of the book ‘Spiritual Survival and the City’.
Sam Nolen
Sam is a graduate from the Samadhi Yoga teacher training program and works in government for Aboriginal Affairs. Sam lends many skills to the Yoga in the Community team and has been formative in creating infrastructure for the organisation.
Kevin Crocombe
Kevin is a graphic designer living in the US. He comes to us by way of his partner, Alanna, who helped teach the Samadhi Yoga teacher training program last November. Kevin is a yoga practitioner and strong advocate of the advantages of yoga practice. He prefers doing work for compassionate businesses and organisations such as ours, and is happily donating his time and talent.
Our Teachers
Currently all of our teachers volunteer their time free of charge. Most teacher teach one or two Yoga in the Community classes per week in addition to the other classes they teach as a service to the community, known in yogic teachings as ‘Karma Yoga’. Without their dedication and support this project would not be possible.
Affiliated Bodies and Support Network:
Groundwork International Foundation – Since its inception, Groundwork has worked cooperatively with one of Yoga in the Community’s key supporters, Samadhi Yoga. Yoga Teachers’ Association of Australia – Yoga in the Community’s teachers are professional members of the YTAA, and Yoga in the Community co-founder, Katie Spiers, sits on YTAA NSW Steering Committee.
Yoga Alliance (US) – Yoga in the Community co-founder Katie Spiers is an accredited trainer with the Yoga Alliance, and Samadhi Yoga is a registered school with Yoga Alliance for training purposes.
Jammy Gallery – Yoga in the Community works in cooperation with this new Sydney-based community arts facility, particularly in delivery of its yoga programs to the disabled. Jammy was established by a Samadhi Yoga teacher, and Samadhi Yoga recently raised over $600 to support the start up of Jammy Gallery. Samadhi Yoga – Sydney-based Samadhi yoga studio provides in kind support for Yoga in the Community, including free rent and office space, phone line, administrative support, a free training space for all training of Yoga in the Community teachers, and promotion of the program to its database of over 2000 yoga students.
